QB Tom Brady is one of many key starters expected to sit tonight for the Patriots.
If you were hoping to see quarterback Tom Brady and other big name players during the Patriots preseason game against the Eagles tonight, you're going to be disappointed. According to multiple reports, the Patriots will sit Tom Brady and other key starters, including linebacker Jerod Mayo, defensive tackle Vince Wilfork, tight ends Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez, and wide receivers Brandon Lloyd and Wes Welker.
The Patriots are playing three preseason games in a span of ten days, so it makes sense that they would limit the reps that their key starters see. That being said, several back-up and bubble players should see an increase in reps tonight.
Expect Brian Hoyer to get the starting nod at quarterback, while Jabar Gaffney, Donte Stallworth, Deion Branch, and Julian Edelman should all get extended reps at wide receiver. Ron Brace will also likely get a starting nod at defensive tackle. At tight end, Tyler Urban and Alex Silvestro should see a lot of snaps.
It's usually disappointing when key players sit preseason games, but it's also an exciting opportunity for those young bubble players to prove themselves. Those bubble players will also likely be going against top talent, as the Eagles are expected to play their starters into the third quarter tonight.
