We all know about the holdout between Maurice Jones-Drew and the Jaguars. Word on the street is, MJD is open for a trade. If that is the case, I can't help but think that MAYBE the Patriots make a trade for him.
One of the Jaguars biggest needs, is more offensive weapons for the now-budding QB Blaine Gabbert. Maybe the Patriots would be willing to trade Wes Welker to Jacksonville for MJD. I know this sounds crazy but it is an option.
I am strongly aware of what Wes Welker brings to the Patriots. He is Tom's most prized receiver. BUT...here me out.
There is a youth movement in the NFL. Wes Welker isn't old but he isn't young. The Patriots may be already planning on life without Wes after this season. Aaron Hernandez can fill in his role. (Belichick hinted earlier in a press conference.) But there is another hidden jewel on the Patriot's roster that the torch can be passed down to...
I believe the Patriots have more planned for him this season and maybe planning on even having him as the slot receiver next season.
I myself don't even know if I would agree with this trade but you can't help but think that it is a possibility. Wes Welker is Brady's most reliable receiver and he is Tom's security blanket. But he can be replaced.
After all, the Patriots RB's could use a veteran presence ahead of Ridley and Vereen.
Bringing in Corey Dillon had proved to be a great move by the Patriots in 2004. Maybe MJD would provide similar returns.
This may sound crazy but don't count it out because I don't even believe the Patriots would do it.
Kind of like an eye for an eye trade.
