The NFL handed down it's punishment to the Patriots head coach for making contact with a replacement official.

The NFL announced on Tuesday that New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick was been fined $50,000 for making "impermissible physical contact with an official" after Sunday night's 31-30 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

Following Justin Tucker's game-winning field goal, Belichick grabbed the arm of official Esteban Garza, who was making his way off the field. Belichick was seeking clarification of whether or not Tucker's kick would be reviewed. Replays indicated that the game-winning kick may have been no good, thus giving the Patriots the 30-28 victory.

"It was inappropriate for me to contact the official," Belichick said. "I take responsibility for what happened. I accept the discipline, and I apologize for the incident Sunday night in Baltimore."

When asked to comment on the matter on Monday, Belichick said he did not mean to disrespect the official and that he simply wanted to know whether or not Tucker's kick could be reviewed.

"I don't have anything to add to it," Belichick said in his Wednesday briefing with reporters. "Whatever the league decides to do, I'll respect and just keep trying to do my job."

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh was not fined by the league for a heated exchange he and an official had during Sunday night's game

Belichick joins a list of coaches including Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan and Denver Broncos coaches John Fox and Jack Del Rio to be fined by the league due to referee affairs.
