The Patriots added some receiver depth to their practice squad Tuesday, signing former Hillsdale prospect Andre Holmes to their practice squad.

The New England Patriots made a minor move today, signing 2011 undrafted free agent wide receiver Andre Holmes to their practice squad:

Holmes, 24, originally entered the NFL as a rookie free agent with Minnesota out of Hillsdale in 2011. The 6-foot-4, 223-pounder was released by Minnesota after training camp and was signed to the Dallas practice squad. Holmes was signed to the Dallas 53-man roster late in the 2011 season but was inactive for the final four games of the season. He made the Dallas 53-man roster out of training camp in 2012 and played seven games, registering two receptions for 11 yards. Holmes was released by Dallas on Nov. 25 and signed back to the practice squad on Nov. 27.

Holmes is a big target, who the Patriots worked out privately prior to the 2011 NFL Draft. At the time, I thought he was someone the Patriots could take a flier on late as he has intriguing physical size and traits (runs a 4.51 40 yard dash). He could be a developmental prospect for 2013 if he sticks around on to the end of the season, and is signed to a future contract by the team.
