Make no mistake about it, I am happy for the win. And yes, it is even more satisfying when the Patriots overcome their own mistakes (which were many), and Manning, and the Officials to get that win.
But let me take you back to the moment, when the Patriots had just gone ahead by 7 points, less than half a quarter to go, and Manning with the ball... he throws an Interception, Talib has all but won the game, Patriots ball on the 19 yard line.
And then the Manning favoritism kicks in, and the officials award the ball back to the Broncos, and the whole drive to get down there and score, to tie the game back up... is just one yellow flag after another.
No surprise here, I said we would see just that if the game was close near the end. This is exactly what every Patriots fan has witnessed post 2004, ever since there was a 'rules emphasis' pushed by Bill Polian, then President of the Competition Committee... I call it the 'Manning emphasis' and for sure, in every game except the Super Bowl, Manning gets those calls when he needs them to bail him out.
If that hadn't been the case, the game would have never gone into overtime. The Patriots with the ball on the 19 yard line, after Talib's interception, would have come away with at least a FG and left the Broncos almost no time on the clock.
Oh, I hear your argument... those of you that want to argue that there was a penalty... but watch the game, see how Thompkins is practically tackled as the ball heads his way, a much more legit and clear penalty... but no call.
Or hey, I could point out that the sack-sandwich the Broncos put on Brady was a much much worse hit than what Brees suffered the other night against the 49ers when they sacked Brees and forced the fumble. And the officials over-turned that with a Personal Foul.
Or I could mention that not one of those penalties called on the Patriots, in that late comeback Manning 'led' to tie the game, was near as bad as the Pass Interference on Gronk in last week's game against the Panthers.
The officials made sure the Jets got their victory in NY, and they made sure the Panthers got their victory in NC... and its sad to say, and a sad indictment on the NFL and its anti-Patriots bias, they even tried to gift Manning with a victory in New England.
