2014 Offseason

With the loss to the Dolphins I feel like getting some Draft talk going. I am going to list each position in a different level of need-Desperate, Moderate, and Low.

The first level I am going to hit is low. I think QB, RB, FB, and Special Teams. I think WR is flexed between low and moderate. I feel confident that the young guys will progress well. Most of them are doing decent. The first position I am going to hit on is QB. We obviously don't need a starter but we could use a developmental guy. With Brady getting older and Mallett set to hit FA after next season we need a developmental QB. My vote is Aaron Murray with his ACL his stock from what I have seen is around the 4th or 5th round. I would be perfectly fine to spend a 4th on him.

Next is RB/FB. Even though Ridley has had trouble with fumbles there is no denying his talent. Blount has been better than I expected. He is a load to bring down and has stepped up well when Ridley got benched. Bolden and Vereen are more of our change of pace backs and Vereen is doing extremely well and Bolden although he has had trouble with suspensions I am fine with him staying and he is a decent back. Develin has also exceeded my expectations. He has been a good blocker and has taken advantage of when the ball is handed to him.

Special Teams we have a good kicker, punter, long snapper and I feel as if Boyce will be our KR guy in the future. As for PR if we resign Edelman(who I say is a must sign because of his PR skills and he is a good slot WR plus he has stayed healthy) we have a great PR.

Next level is moderate. I think CB/S, DE, and DT are moderate. So for our CB/S I would like to see a couple guys added here. Since Talib might leave I say getting a good CB in the draft would be good for us. If aim for a CB hopefully in the 2nd round of the draft or a solid CB in FA and Talib stays we have good depth. If Talib leaves well we definitely need to get a guy who has the potential to be a good starter. As for a S McCoutry is a great FS but we don't really have a good SS. Gregory has had trouble this season against the long ball. Duron Harmon is looking like a decent S but never hurts to have a multiple good safeties. As for DEs Nink is solid, Chandler Jones has 73 tackles and 11.5 sacks, and Buchanan has the skill-set just needs to work on his technique, and although we have Jake Bequette I would like to see us use a late rounder on a DE with big upside because he wouldn't have to start he could play a reserve role and special teams his first year then his second year he would challenge for a starting spot because Nink isn't getting any younger and you can never have to many good DEs. I am going to take a paragraph from SmashmouthD because I am thinking pretty much the same exact thing. I don't believe BB will see DT as a concern at all for next season. He has three over-achieving rookies in the mix right now (Siliga, Jones, Vellano) getting things done, and three veterans (Wilfork, Kelly, Sopoaga) on contract for next season... (they also have rookie Cory Grissom on IR) considering some of BB's comments about this position in the recent past, I would be very surprised to see them use a day one, or day two pick on the position. Plus, we have Armstead on contract for next season to and he should be healthy by the start of next season.

Now for the desperate level. I have OL, TE, and LB. TE doesn't really need any explanation why I think we all understand why we need help here. OL with Solder and Sea Bass both getting injured we need a good backup T. I know we have Marcus Cannon but I feel like he might fit better as a G. With Mankins not getting any younger and Connonly better as a backup we definitely need at least one very good guard and you could make and argument for C as well since Wendell will be a FA and has been slightly disappointing this season. Now for LB with Spikes a FA, Mayo coming back from injury, and Hightower not the best coverage LB and our inability to produce a pass-rush sometimes we need a good all-around LB. Collins will definitely help next year but if he gets injured who will back him up? Mayo and Fletcher can help with pass coverage to a degree but I still feel like we need another good LB.

Well there is my opinion. Feel free to leave comments!
