Patriots to Host WR Donald Jones, RB Leon Washington on Visits Today

USA TODAY Sports

The New England Patriots are hosting two offensive players on free agent visits today: wide receiver Donald Jones and running back Leon Washington.

Fresh off the signing of former Rams wide receiver Danny Amendola, the New England Patriots are looking at bringing in a couple of more weapons to add to their offensive attack. According to reports, the New England Patriots are scheduled to host former Seahawks and Jets running back / return specialist Leon Washington on a visit, as well as former Bills receiver Donald Jones:

Washington, released by the Seahawks yesterday, would likely serve as a return specialist and change of pace back for the Patriots. The Patriots interest in him aligns with that of Joshua Cribbs, the former Browns return specialist who is likely to sign with the Cardinals. If the Patriots were to sign the shifty Washington, it could spell the end of Danny Woodhead’s career in New England.

Donald Jones became an unrestricted free agent after the Bills chose to non-tender him recently. He’s a speedster who has had several very productive games against the Patriots, catching touchdowns in both match-ups last year, including a 65 yard catch and run in week four. In 2012, Jones played in 12 games for the Bills, starting 10, and snagging 41 catches for 433 yards and four touchdowns. At age 25, he’d provide some needed youth to the Patriots receiving corps, although I wouldn’t see him as more than the team’s 3rd or 4th receiver.
