I volunteered myself to pose as the GM of the Patriots for this upcoming SB Nation Mocking the Draft. This is going to be a huge event, so naturally there are a list of things I need to bring up here.
1. I need any user who would be willing to join me in the war room.
The war room can be here, where those who are willing to take part in it shall discuss with others how the draft is panning out, what direction teams are looking to go in, what direction OUR team should go in, who seems to be available or will be available, the value of players in the draft, etc. The more minds present in these the better.
If you would like to join in on helping me select the Patriot's picks, let me know through email (email@example.com), and add your name, username on the site, email address, and twitter handles. In the event I'm somehow not there, I will be selecting the line of command, which I will present in the post a day or two before the live mock draft (which is on April 20th and April 21st).
Both days will be from about 2pm-7pm. You don't need to stick around for the entire thing. If we have a ton of people willing to participate, than it will likely not be an issue if you have to leave somewhere. it's on Saturday and Sunday, so I hope there are a lot of users here who can join me in these hours in selecting the Pats picks.
I should also mention that there would be a one hour period before each draft where you can discuss trade scenarios. Here's a quote from Doug about the trades:
SEND ALL TRADES TO: trades4MockDraft@hotmail.com They'll be reviewed and sent back as fast as we can check them for Draft pick value. Do you and I a favor and don't submit a trade that isn't withing 100 points for first day picks, or 10% for late round picks. Use this point chart, because it's the one we'll be using too - http://www.draftcountdown.com/features/Value-Chart.php
To submit a trade DURING THE DRAFT: YOU MUST HAVE A PLAYER TO BE PICKED READY WHILE THE STAFF CONSIDERS AND APPROVES YOUR TRADE. FAILURE TO SUBMIT A PLAYER TO BE TAKEN WHILE THE TRADE IS CONSIDERED WILL MAKE THE TRADE VOID. IF THE TRADE GOES THROUGH, MAKE THE PICK YOU OR WHO YOU TRADED WITH WANTS. We want the pick on hand so we can make the pick so the draft doesn't bog down.
2. I need someone who can relay and talk about the draft through twitter and facebook.
Preferably someone the website managers hired to do these sort of social media things. As Doug wrote to me:
Having a guy for just social media would be a good idea. Lots of SBN readers use mobile devices, and past MtD drafts caused problems for older devices due to comment thread length. We've brought in Twitter to help make their viewing of the draft easier.
Plus it would be fun to sort of interact with those who do not typically comment on Pats Pulpit, and I'm sure they will ask you questions like "Who are the Pats looking at now?" :Are they looking to trade with anybody? Will the trade up?" You can pretend your Adam Schefter or Ian Rapaport and all that. lol :P
Needless to say, it would be amazing, and awesomely awesome, if someone could do this on the Pats Pulpit twitter and Facebook feeds. Preferably a Social Media manager already, but if not, than it shouldn't be a problem really (heck, as a regular user you can still relay information you hear about and all that).
3. We will need a big board!!!
Russ Novack I hope will give me his own draft board as a word or libre office document. Bt if he can't, than we would have to make our own. It will help greatly looking at the needs vs. value when selecting a pick.
I'm not sure how available I will be for this week. Last week I was working twice the amount of hours as I usually do, and it took up much of my time. The same could happen this week for me. In the event that it does I would need someone to help make a big board for us. If I become available, I'll email you on how it's looking up, and help out any way I can.
But this is assuming I will be working a ton this week. May not be the case, but would like someone to back me up in case it is.
4. We should plan on any trade scenarios here using the Trade Value Chart now.
Trades, especially big trades, require great preparation and execution. Obviously as the draft rolls along, situations will arise where we will think about trading. But for now, we need to make some plan A, plan B, plan C, etc. trades to help speed up the process.
My philosophy is that I am ALWAYS open for trade negotiations. Options are key to looking at the best course of action for specific situations.
I'm hoping to see a lot of people get involved here. This is the biggest, or one of the biggest, offseason events for SB Nation of the year. But also, it's going to be a lot of fun! Hope to see plenty of emails soon. :)
Got 4 main guys here. 5 including me. Not sure if enough, but it has been brought to my attention that the fewer people the better, and it does kind of make sense. I sent 4 other guys to Doug, and here are my generals:
These are the rankings of the generals here, based on site stuff and being involved. Though it can be interchangeable, it's good to have some form of chain of command.
I Need a guy who can be our social media person. One who can go onto the Pats Pulpit facebook and twitter, and post some things. Details earlier in the post here. If one of my generals can do this, than awesome. if not, I do need a 5th person.
Also, if oen of you really would like to join, I can make room for possibly 1 or 2 more people. I take first come first serve, but you would have to really want to come in and join. :)
