Ramblers let's get rambling

Rambling thoughts

  • Even though he won a Super Bowl ring, I don't miss Dean Pees. Too many collapses late in big games.
  • Greg Bedard thinks Spikes may be gone at year's end and the Pats will slide Hightower to the middle and Collins will play SAM. To me the best fit is for Hightower to stay at SAM, Mayo to move to MIKE and Collins to WILL. I wouldn't want to waste Collins' athleticism in the wash of TEs.
  • Did you read the Brady article in ESPN the Mag? I love the singular focus of Brady and his pursuit of winning, but I also think it has been his undoing in big spots in recent years. I know we can't have it both ways, but I long for the Brady who would fall asleep by his locker before Super Bowls, rather than the smelling salt huffing, safety taking on the first play version of recent years. He gets too hyper cause he is old enough to know opportunities don't grow on trees.
  • Motivated for a big pay day or not, will Talib stay healthy this year? Seems like kind of a candy ass to me. No where near Rasi Dowling territory, but adjacent property.
  • So the secondary is chock full of B grade players. McCourty, Gregory, Tavon Wilson, Adrian Wilson, Ebner, Dowling, Dennard, Talib, Arrington, Cole, Ryan, and Harmon. Out of those 12, five of these guys have to emerge as legit players in '13, right?? Please say yes.
  • I don't give a sh!t how much of a frat rat Gronk is, he will end up the best TE in the history of the NFL. And it won't even be close. His pace for yards, catches, and TDs is off the charts. For example, he'll surpass Mike Ditka's TD career total before Halloween. Plus he is a better blocker than Iron Mike was.
  • I know the NFL scheduled Brady vs. Brees so that Tom could catch Drew for the consecutive Td record in a head to head battle on national TV. The last time these two played, the Saints thumped the Pats pretty bad, 38-17. I would expect some serious pay back from New England. Maybe five or six Brady TDs. Belichick and Brady have not forgotten that whupping.
  • Excited to see an entire healthy season from Chandler Jones, buoyed by the year one to year two improvement scale. They really need him to be a difference maker when rushing four.
  • Will the Pats re-sign Rob Ninkovich? Hard not to want him back as a fan. Guy is clutch.
  • I wouldn't miss Mesko if he loses the Punter competition. He came up small at a few key spots last year.
  • I am excited for the potential of a "smurf" line up. Amendola, Edelman, and Boyce, with Hernandez at TE and Vereen as the lone setback. Would be difficult to defend, with possibility of three one on one matchups on any given play, if the D decides to rush four against it.
  • Something is up with the Rutgers guys. Just doesn't work out like that, despite what Belichick says. Stay tuned.
  • Something weird is going on with Aaron Dobson' s twitter profile photo. Either dude has six fingers ( which explains his great catching prowess) or someone is puffing on a blunt. Check it out. https://mobile.twitter.com/AyE_DeE_3
  • For all the crap Gronk takes for being injury prone, Hernandez has missed twice as many regular season games. Double!
  • Thinking that kicking Cannon inside is a wonderful idea, and think he might steal minutes from Connolly by year end. As long as Svitek pans out.
  • I think that trade talk for Mallet was a bunch of BS, there is not a chance in hell the Pats could get a 1 or a 2 for him until he puts out some good tape. That was Lombardi trying to help out his former boss.
  • Lastly, depth is great in the regular season to withstand injuries and put yourself in position. But when playoff crunch time hits, I miss having multiple A+ players. Difference makers win championships. Depth guys get you there.
