It is funny to watch the entire press core and the fan base practically write off the Pats after one game and some key injuries, but I say better now for injuries than at the end of the season. For one Ammendola has groin injury likely will be back in two weeks at most when we face our first competitive team. Gronk who has basically been out two years should also be back for that game. Think about it Gronk while rusty will be back and a huge target in the red zone, a problem we had game one. Vereen will also be back for last 6 games to tune up for the playoffs Barring more injuries the Pats will make the playoffs. What is important is we are healthy game 16 and on the same page with Brady
That being said we need to get these rookies acclimated to our offense to see who and what we have. We have two games against what are considered bottom 5 teams, rest the injured guys and stick the rookies out there. Though i doubt it, perhaps we lose one game, but more importantly let's get Thompkins, Boyce, Dobson and Sudfield (if healthy) in the game. I would love to see these guys get as many reps as they can. Send Boyce and Dobson deep let's see what they got. At worst you take a defender out of the box at best you find a gem. Thompkins who showed the most promise preseason needs to get over NFL jitters and rookie mistakes. Use him and target him again. I really doubt he won't be tapping his toe down on sideline or stopping in the endzone, I am sure he got an earful from the coaches and Brady. Washington while a veteran will also need some reps as a third down back get him in there. Maybe Bolden finds a niche. The point here is we have two easier games to find two guys who are ready now to be play makers down the stretch.
If need be simplify the offense for who needs it. With Boyce's speed create 4 go routs and some play action fakes and send him. Keep it simple. Same for Dobson give them plays in which they excel and add to them as weeks go by and you know what they do well. Thompkins and Sudfield probably need to have more robust number of plays as both will likely line up in majority of snaps if they return to preseason form.
In any case the Pats are real lucky that we have these first 3 games to get in sync. While I am not looking past these teams it is an opportunity to get these rookies tuned. It is an opportunity to rest the injured. I think its more important to play the rookies even if we somehow manage to lose one of these games. Better Jets and Tampa then Denver and Houston.
We have 3 tough games coming and we need to get one or two of these guys in the offense.
Stop whining. Brady and Belichick will get us to the playoffs and as the last 8 or so years has shown, its not the regular season but what we do in post season that matters. Unfortunately for Pat fans its win the Superbowl or a bust year. Boy are we spoiled.
