We all saw how easy it was for Jamie Collins to drop back into coverage, turn his head and immediately locate and intercept the football against Andrew Luck (About 30 yards down field). Do you think he could catch a pass from Tom Brady just as easily? I know it would be asking a lot of a rookie, who is clearly one of the most versatile defenders the Pats have in an extremely complex defense, but don't they always say there are no rookies in the playoffs?
I'm not calling for Collins to be implemented fully in Tom Brady's complex offense, but maybe have 2-3 plays drawn up for him in the red zone? At 6-3 and 250, he certainly has the size, long arms, runs a 4.59 40...to me it makes sense. Imagine a goal line skill personnel of 3 TE (Hooman, Mulligan, Collins) and 2 RB (Develin, Blount) who are all 250+ lbs!!!
Of course, when you put anybody in those situations, especially ones that have no prior experience in those situations, you take a chance of getting them injured. With this team though? Do we really care about injuries at this stage of the game?
With the uncertainty of Aaron Dobson being a viable red zone target for this week, really, the only red zone target, doesn't this seem like a Belichickian move to have a defender catch TDs from Tom? Am I way off base here?
First time poster here, let me hear from you!
