Moving on/Positional Rankings Preview V1

All of us are hurting pretty bad right now, and after that beat down by Denver it is obvious this Patriots squad has a lot of improving to do. No position group played well today, and each unit's flaws were exposed by a almost flawless Bronco performance. The secondary looked like it had back tracked after two years of progress, the Linebacker unit was exposed in pass coverage, and the Defensive like got little to know push on the pocket. The Patriots O-Line got manhandled in pass protection and run blocking, the WR's had some trouble getting open, the Rb's had trouble finding holes and getting to the next level, and Brady missed a couple crucial throws that would lead to points.

Honestly, we are probably lucky we made it this far, bringing along with us the second youngest team in the league and leaving 6 impact starters on the IR. The team has made great improvements in its team building strategy, opting to part with older free agents and replace them with younger versatile athletes. Belichick and Caserio have done a good job of finding players to fit their system. In the last 3 drafts they have added notable impact players Nate Solder, Stevan Ridley, Shane Vereen, Marcus Cannon, Chandler Jones, Dont'a Hightower, Alfonzo Dennard, Jamie Collins, Aaron Dobson, Logan Ryan, and Duron Harmon. The success rate of this new wave of Patriot draftees is remarkably higher than the middle years of the 2000's. The only bust out of those 3 classes has been Ras-I Dowling, and it can be argued that the talent was there for him....but his body wasn't. Besides those players, Tavon Wilson had a phenomenal rookie season, but did not see the field much his second year except for a special teams role in which he thrived.

The only thing we can do now as Patriot fans is move on, and remain hopeful for next season. We are early in the process, but I have been working on my positional rankings for the upcoming draft. Underclassmen have finished declaring, and Senior Bowl week is set to begin. My views on a player are of course susceptible to change as more game tape becomes available, and as we learn about the draft class as a whole. I welcome your opinions and any thoughts you may have, or any suggestions. These rankings are based on who I think would fit best in a Patriots uniforms, and will be expanded and revised as the season goes on.
