The New England Patriots haven’t won in 10 years. People say how can you say it’s been a long 10 years when the New York Jets haven’t won since Super Bowl III. People don’t understand when you put all your hope in every year. New England fans always see the Patriots make it so far but fail to win the Lombardi. As Patriot fans we are just trying to see Tom Brady the humble and clutch no name Michigan Quarter Back win another super bowl. If you’re a "Tom Brady Hater" why do you hate him so much? Is it because Tom Brady shows his heart, gives it his all and puts a ton of hard work to win every year? Tom Brady is getting up there in age and he knows this is his year. The only team in his way in AFC is the Denver Broncos.
Denver has been talked about all offseason but sadly plans will fail for them. Yes you have Aqib Talib, the guy that didn’t stay on the field when the Ravens beat the Patriots in the 2012 AFC Championship sending them to win their Super Bowl. The Broncos won 2013 AFC Championship by him being sidelined due to injuries. Denver is getting the guy that held the Patriots continue struggling in their slump. The Patriots haven’t had a star cornerback since Ty Law. Aqib Talib deal is 6-years $57 million with 26 guaranteed. The Broncos have little flexibility with his deal. Aqib Talib being on the Patriots helped the Broncos. Another player the Broncos signed that looks great but is declining. Demarcus Ware is 31 coming off one of his worst season. He has a little left in the tank still but is he really worth 3-years $30 million with $20 guaranteed. Ware and Miller sounds like a duo threat but he isn’t the same player he once was. The Broncos are only thinking about winning for the next 1-3 years with Manning. They need to think about the future without Peyton and with Brock Osweiler. The Broncos have just Plaxico Burress themselves in the leg. This will come back to bite the Broncos.
The signing I love for the Broncos is TJ Ward and Emmanuel Sanders. TJ Ward brings that physical presence which can help in not only in the pass but also in the run. Ward deal is 4-years $23 million with $14 guaranteed. Ward can be a top 5 strong safety in this league. The signing of Emmanuel Sanders fills Deckers role opposite of Demaryius Thomas. He is a player that runs good routes, quick speed and great hands. His contract is a steal 3-years $15 million with $6 million guaranteed. Sanders, D. Thomas, J. Thomas and Welker is a great core for Peyton to dominate with. Denver made some under the radar signing that no one is talking about. I expect these players to make a huge impact in 2014.
On the other side the Patriots have kept quiet by signing Darrelle Revis. Revis is the Patriot killer (besides for Bernard Pollard). He joins a team that needs leadership on its defense. The Patriots defense hasn’t had a stud in a while. Revis contract has flexibility 1-year worth $12 million with the 2nd-year worth $20 million. The 2nd year is a team option, if he doesn’t perform to his abilities they can get rid of him. Darrelle Revis will perform to his full potential with Bill Belichick. Aqib Talib was a great buy low high reward but he couldn’t stay on the field when needed. When Darrelle is healthy he is the best cornerback in the league. New England problems on their defense start out with their secondary. The Patriots have not only signed Darrelle Revis but also Brandon Browner. He is a physical cornerback that presses wide receivers at the line. Browner height 6’ 4" makes him a freak of nature. Brandon Browner’s only down side is his suspension due to PED’s making him miss the first 4 games of the season. Browner’s contract is a steal 3-years $12.35 million with $1 million guaranteed. The Patriots will use his height and big body perfectly to cover wide receivers and tight ends. Another big body physical addition is Brandon LaFell at wide receiver. LaFell is a cheap addition that could reach his full potential with Brady. LaFell might not have the speed but he can help block on run plays. LaFell deal is worth 3-years up to $9 million. The Patriots haven’t gotten the biggest names besides Darrelle Revis but it might work out better for them. New England actually sees a future after Brady and isn’t harming their future with these signings.
As a New England Patriot fan I thought the beginning of 2013 would be the year but due to injuries it prevented them from reaching the Lombardi. The Broncos had injuries too but wasn’t as nearly as much as New England. The Patriots had signings but lost some players in Spikes, Fletcher, and Blount. They will need to replace these guys in the draft. New England has resigned Edelman and worked Wilfork out. It all comes down in the draft if they can hit their top 3 picks and even trade Ryan Mallet for a 2-3 round pick this will be a successful season. There are reports about New England being the front-runners for veteran pass rusher Will Smith. He is a solid situational player because he is a 5-technique pass rusher. As a reader you can say I am typical New England Patriot fan predicting them to win every year. I am an optimistic fan haven’t seen a roster with Tom Brady like this since their super bowl days in 2004. Denver can make the biggest signings like the Philadelphia Eagles but the New England Patriots will come on top this year. This is Brady year to take the Lombardi.
Never miss Patriots breaking news!
