ESPN's Mike Reiss has announced the details of the Patriots contract with strong safety Pat Chung. It's a one year deal with the following economics:
$60k signing bonus
$60k workout bonus
$240k roster bonus ($15k per game)
That $740k base represents a hair above the veterans minimum of $730k. He'll earn his real money by making the team and being active for each week.
With such a low signing bonus, it's clear that Chung is viewed as a camp body with little demand on the market. $60k is a drop in the bucket and Chung should be given every opportunity to make the roster on such a low cost deal.
Chung isn't going to be handed any playing time and I look forward to him finding what once made him a great defensive player.
