Predicting the Pats 53-man roster (Edition 1)

Now, I know we all enjoy scouting the best college players every year, only to become attached to prospects before the draft occurs and find out that Belichick & Co. see the team's interests a little bit differently. So what could be easier than reading the mind of the Hooded One? Predicting the Pat's final 53-man roster - after all, the odds are better.

I wanted to wait until roster came closer to the 90-man, but seeing as we have some time to kill over the next few months - why not get started before we become too attached to players over the offseason? It should make things interesting when we look back from future editions, considering we've already seen two players cut, will see some competitive position battles, and don't know which UDFA have actually signed. Plus I would like for our First Edition's to be released on record before other media outlets begin swaying our minds with their predictions.

So we know last season's 53, the 2014 draft picks, players from the practice squad/injured reserve, and a handful of UDFA:

Quarterbacks: Tom Brady, Ryan Mallett, Jimmy Garoppolo

Running Backs: Stevan Ridley, Shane Vereen, James White, Brandon Bolden, Jonas Gray, Roy Finch, James Develin, Stephen Houston

Wide Receivers: Aaron Dobson, Danny Amendola, Julian Edelman, Brandon LaFell, Kenbrell Thompkins, Josh Boyce, Mark Harrison, Matthew Slater, Greg Orton, Jeremy Gallon, Reggie Dunn, Ja-Mes Logan

Tight Ends: Rob Gronkowski, Justin Jones, Asa Watson, Michael Hoomanawanui, D.J. Williams

Offensive Line: Nate Solder, Logan Mankins, Ryan Wednell, Dan Connolly, Sebastian Vollmer, Marcus Cannon, Josh Kline, Bryan Stork, Jon Halapio, Cameron Flemming, R.J Mattes, Braxston Cave, Chris Barker, Jordan Devey.

Defensive Ends: Rob Ninkovich, Chandler Jones, Will Smith, Zach Moore, Jake Bequette, Michael Buchanan

Defensive Tackles: Tommy Kelly, Vince Wilfork, Dominique Easley, Sealver Siliga, Armond Armstead, Chris Jones, Joe Vellano, Marcus Forston

Linebackers: Jerod Mayo, Dont'a Hightower, Jamie Collins, Ja'Gared Davis, Steve Beauharnais, Chris White, Josh Hull, Cameron Gordon, Deontae Skinner, James Morris

Cornerbacks: Darrelle Revis, Brandon Browner, Alfonzo Dennard, Logan Ryan, Kyle Arrington, Jemea Thomas, Justin Green, Travis Hawkins

Safeties: Devin McCourty, Duron Harmon, Patrick Chung, Nate Ebner, Kanorris Davis, Tavon Wilson, Shamiel Gary, Jeremy Deering

Specialists: Stephen Gostowski, Ryan Allen, Danny Aiken, Tyler Ott

The Only Rule to keep predictions simple: Stick to What We Know (the practice squad and PUP can be mentioned but inevitably a player with health concerns will likely come off PUP on to the 53-man roster at some point, and for the sake of pipe-dream trades only current Free Agents (Keller) can be signed given that there is cap space available).

There are many versatile players projected to make the roster, so feel free to list them under the equivalent position in a relevant formation for the 2014 season (For example: Defense: 4-2-5 DT Dom Easely).

Who knows, if you effectively predict the Final-53, maybe your fellow Pulpiteers would be okay with you having a bragging right in your signature for the 2014 season. What an honor!
