New England - Sergio Render, G, Va Tech 216. New England (from Philadelphia) - Jarrett Brown, QB, WVU - Grade - B+ - There are a lot of players in this draft that would start early. It's not unconceivable that the first four players would be rookie starters. Brown was also a sneaky good pickup.

Mocking Dan grades the Patriots' seven-round mock draft. Thoughts?

Patriots have agreed to a contract with veteran free-agent DL Damione Lewis

Mike Reiss Reports: The Patriots have agreed to a contract with veteran free-agent defensive lineman Damione Lewis, according to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter. The move adds depth to the team's defensive line, where the biggest hole is at right defensive end. The 32-year-old Lewis has played mostly in 4-3 defenses, as a defensive tackle, with the Rams (2001-2005) and Panthers (2006-2009). The Patriots value versatility among their defensive linemen and figure to see how Lewis (6-2, 301) looks at different spots across the line, but his primary value will probably come as an interior rusher, a role previously held by Jarvis Green (now with the Broncos). A contract for Lewis wouldn't figure to be a bank-breaker, so his addition looks like a low-cost move with little risk from a team perspective. It also gives the club some more flexibility entering the draft.

A Look at Penn State's Jared Odrick

I think Bill O'Brien is a solid coach and he should be calling the plays again. I think the offense will be less predictable this season, in part because they'll have to be a bit more creative -- and establish a more physical identity -- without Wes Welker. As for the rookie running back, I could see it going either way. They have three backs entering the final year of their contracts (Morris, Taylor, Faulk), so there should be some thought to preparing for the future, but I think they can win with this group in 2010.

ESPNBoston's Mike Reiss on whether or not Bill O'Brien will be calling the offensive shots and whether or not they'll pick up an RB.

there are some conflicting opinions on Kindle among scouts. Some call him more of a finesse player, which isn't what the Patriots would want at that spot. Others view him as one of the best pure pass rushers in this draft. Belichick has some strong connections within that Texas defense, so he'll have the information he needs.

My favorite caption for this pic comes from Comedic.Sans: Meet J. Edelman and W. Welker (Edelman’s a inch or two taller, of the two). Can you do better? Caption this pick!

New Pats Pulpit site logo

Since I'm the head guy here at Pats Pulpit for the day, I felt the need to make a few changes. One of them is the site logo. Pretty nifty, huh? Of course, no sooner after I made this change, Richard Hill started messing with Stampede Blue's logo. I'll get you for this, Hill!
