Open Thread: New England Patriots @ Indianapolis Colts, Week 9
No players with the flu. No bug-eyed Reche Caldwell. No second-rate linebackers covering a slot tight end.
The Boston Globe's Mike Reiss reported last night that safety Eugene Wilson and the aforementioned Eric Alexander have been downgraded to out. Wilson will be missed, and James Sanders will likely start in his place. That means Rodney Harrison will probably start as well, and that leaves New England a little thin at safety, with Brandon Meriweather first off the bench.

New England Patriots @ Indianapolis Colts
RCA Dome, Nov. 4, 4:15 p.m.
Official lists of inactives for today's late games have yet to be released.
There's still some time for talk, so any last-minute pregame thoughts (you know, something intelligent) should go here.
Expect an influx of Colts fans. Be nice to them. I'll take care of any "issues."
Enjoy the game, and Go PATRIOTS!!

Pregame poll results
The start of a long afternoon...
WHAT? That's how encroachment works!
At least...
These officials are incompetent!
That's three blown calls already
Remember...
It's just terrible
Should have been offensive pass interference
Harrison should have had the interception
Now
Way to go Adam!
Good first defense series
Kaczur really blew it on that first play
you know, it'll be very funny...
doubt it, but it would be funny...
Well...
Vrabel held right at the point of attack
really have to learn...
This is disgusting
No replay on the fumble, either?
Patriots 0, Colts 3, 1st Q, 3:05
In other news, Jim Nantz sounds so disappointed that it's only 3-0.
End of 1st Quarter
Offense getting it going after starting with a 3-and-out. Defense gave up a lot of yards, but only 3 points while possibly getting credit for blocking Vinatieri's first career missed FG in the RCA dome.
Light needs to play better
Faulk TACKLED on a pass route
Also
Patriots 7, Colts 3, 2nd Q, 12:00
Great end-to-end drive. Unnecessary roughness after the touchdown pass. No call.
Moss ties Stanley Morgan for franchise record for touchdown receptions in a single season with 12.
Illegal contact on New England
Manning complaining about something
And then....
hey tommasse (slightly OT)
It's driving me CRAZY! if I hadn't already paid for the bloody fieldpass radio this season, I now wouldn't, and wouldn't recommend it.
Nope. Can't help you.
It's all about the $$, man.
no, that at least would be some variety...
they're for:
-nfl gameday,
-nfl replay, "enhancement"
-nfl network, colts-falcons
on a loop.
same "voice of god" type voice, grumbling along. the football trumpet fanfares, and machismo jokes...
given my tendency to get really tense during these games, this really isn't helping... could be worse, they forgot to turn them off a couple of weeks ago, and the whole second quarter was buried by these ads. whoever is on the switch now is a little faster, but still late a lot.
Several nice plays by Harrison
How
This is absolutely disgusting!
This is an absolute insult to anyone
I will point out
But Hobbs DID turn back
Patriots defense is AWESOME!
Colts have scored only by the grace of the absolutely incompetent officiating. It should be 7-0 at worst. The NFL should be utterly embarrassed by this display.
Patriots 7, Colts 6, 2nd Q, 7:34
somewhere I read
Not sure where you read it...
I've written it a couple times, too
Me! Me! Me! I did it! ME! ME!
That should have been a late hit after the drop
Actually
I think you're right ..
Two-minute warning
"Leg whip"?
It's simple
The amazing thing
Tough play.
True .. that play probably not called
That was truly awful
Patriots 7, Colts 13, 2nd Q, 0:13
Well...
My prediction. The Colts will go 16-0, we'll go 15-1, we'll be back here in the playoffs, and they'll get all the calls again and win another Super Bowl, that is my prediction...
Halftime stats

More stats
Patriots: 5 for a nonsensical 102 yds
Colts: 1 for 5 yds
Totally blown calls: Unknown.
2nd half opening drive
Their/They're
Patriots go nowhere on 2nd half opening drive
Defense steps up again
Maroney
This is insane
Shockingly -- no replay.
Nantz!
That's what happens when Manning is all you think about.
Kaczur and Light
Defensive holding .. Indianapolis
This isn't even accidental anymore. How can you possibly make so many bad calls? Even Simms and Nantz see them.
Bruschi shows some fire
Green gets through the line, tackle for a loss
can someone explain...
Unsportsmanlike conduct on a punt return?
This is completely unbelievable.
Bill Polian: "It's good to own the officials."
Moss -- amazing catch
Wow .. defensive holding
Moss's arm held at the goal line
Hayden was holding Moss' arm
That's because Simms is an idiot
were they trying
That's what Simms was trying to convince everyone
Patriots 10, Colts 13, 3rd Q, 2:22
Nice open field coverage tackle by Eckel
What a great return by Welker!
I don't know what these repeated draws are
End of 3rd Q
Wow. Nice play. Pure luck, but nice play.
Another farcical penalty on the Patriots
Light Loses his cool
ya .. no replays
Manning sacked .. where's the penalty?
Patriots 10, Colts 20, 4th Q, 9:42
Giants fan here
Hey, they call it after the pass is completed
Meanwhile, Moss, who made another spectacular play, was speared, but (not surprisingly) there's no call.
I've decided
I have no clue how that's offensive interference
Even SIMMS said it was a bogus call.
The NFL should be ashamed...

Patriots 17, Colts 20, 4th Q, 7:59
Despite the officials' best efforts to fix the game, the Patriots hang tough and have this one going down to the wire.
Harrison limping
I'M SHOCKED!
But I'm sure Polian and Dungy will be complaining about it, and the official will be reprimanded.
I'M SHOCKED BEYOND BELIEF!
Great defense! Colts got lucky again.
4th Q, 3:58 to go
Great pass and catch, Brady to Stallworth
Great pass and catch, Brady to Stallworth
3 touchdown passes for Brady -- AGAIN
Patriots 24, Colts 20, 4th Q, 3:15
Still a lot of time left on the clock. Defense needs to come up HUGE!
Facemask, Colts ... No call .. as usual
GREAT DEFENSE!
Was ruled a fumble
Penalty was on Colvin, not Harrison
Huge 3rd down with 2:13 left
2-minute warning
This stupid
WOO-HOO!
oy... this is like one of the games from 2001, where they won every thing by 3 or thereabouts...
I was much happier with the blowouts.
WOW!!

interesting...
Congrats to the Patriots .. the REAL good guys
Thanks to everyone who commented. Savor this one. The Patriots beat 53 players and 7 officials.
I'm just waiting...
I mean, why not? That was the most blatantly farcical example of poor officiating I've ever seen last for an entire game, so why not add stupidity to blindness?
No sense waiting, but it will happen

Patriots end Colts winning streak at about half (12) of New England's record (21).
Adam Vinatieri misses first career field goal in the RCA Dome. The kick was not blocked.
I think the missed kick...
Not according to the offical gamebook
where does one find...
general question, I've been following the nfl.com play-by-play, is there a better option for the tv-challenged?
Not a perk. Gamebook available only after the game
Most of the info in gamebook are on the other GameCenter pages, but I find the gamebook easier to reference and text-search and it doesn't chew up system memory like some browser pages do.
