Around SBN: Steve McNair Found Shot to Death

Patriots Links for Monday, 12/24

In his Monday Morning Quarterback column for SI.com, Peter King writes that the Patriots are model franchise of the NFL, and names Patriots personnel man Scott Pioli as the #1 guy he'd want as a GM if he were running an NFL team.

With the Globe, Mike Reiss has several updates to his blog.

Reiss also believes the Patriots may have designed a simple game plan for the Dolphins for the purpose of keeping film of the game from being particularly useful to upcoming playoff opponents.

Reiss and Christopher L. Gasper also collaborated on a notes column focused on yesterday's game.

Reiss also has a feature on Moss's comments about the game, including what Moss thought about the popular perception that Brady was forcing the ball to him in the second half.

Jennifer Toland writes about Troy Brown's return to the playing field yesterday.

Finally, Michael Vega writes on the recent outstanding play of Laurence Maroney, capped by his career-high rushing effort yesterday.

The views expressed in these FanPosts are not necessarily those of the writers or SBNation.

RE:
The King article makes me worry about Scott Pioli bailing out after this season. I really hope he doesn't but he's going to get a lot of offers on the table after this season. He's had them in years past and, to a lot of surprise, he turned them down. Pioli leaving the Pats would be huge.

BUT .. why would he go and what would he do?
I disagree with King. I can understand Romeo Crennel and Charlie Weiss leaving for head coaching jobs, but that's because they're coaches.

I don't know what Pioli is getting paid, so it's hard to say whether he'd leave for more money. By the same token, I don't know how someone can insinuate that he will leave for that reason.

Finally, by all accounts, everyone but Bill Parcells likes working for Bob Kraft, and clearly Pioli has certain loyalties to Bill Belichick. Anyone who has a job can tell you that where you work is as important as what you do or how much you earn.

RE:
I think what Pioli might strive for is having even more of a say in a team's personnel and decision making. He could get that elsewhere, even though he does have a big say now.

He's a hot commodity. A lot of teams will throw a lot of money at him and he has to weigh his options.

Unless someone throws an obscene
amount of money at Pioli, I don't see him leaving a dynasty and an excellent working situation.
