Around SBN: Steve McNair Found Shot to Death

Around the AFC East, Part I - Miami Dolphins

The Phinsider: SB Nation's Miami Dolphins blog
Welcome to Week 2 of "Around the AFC East." Every Friday, my fellow SB Nation AFC East bloggers and I will bring to you a little insight into what's happening within the division.

Now under center: The Phinatic from SB Nation's Miami Dolphins blog, The Phinsider.

tommasse: Dolphins fans seem to be warming up to Ted Ginn Jr. now that Trent Green is expected under center. What is the general view of the Dolphins draft, Ginn, Green and passing on Brady Quinn?

Phinatic: Well, I was one of the many ready to find the nearest bridge and jump off following Miami's first round pick.  How were we supposed to act?  We were all brain-washed by the media, especially ESPN, into thinking that Brady Quinn was the next great NFL quarterback.  However, since then, things have changed.  On that very day, when the Dolphins drafted John Beck with their 2nd-round pick, we all knew they had a plan.  They knew what they were doing all along.

Since the draft, we've heard nothing but good things about Beck.  In fact, in a Dan Le Batard article (and no, I can't stand Le Batard either), he has a little Beck anecdote from ESPN's Chris Mortensen that said that Mortensen has 7 coaches and GMs that he consults with on quarterback prospects (all of which have an excellent track record projecting QBs) and they all agree that Beck is not only better than Quinn, but that he is ready to be elite faster than Quinn.  Now that's high praise.

As far as Green goes, there are mixed feelings.  Some think it's a great move because he's a much better fit for Cam's system while others are still huge fans of Daunte Culpepper and think that once he gets healthy, he'll be an elite QB once again.  As for me, I'm more on the side of Green because he clearly is the better fit for this offensive system and I have huge doubts that DC will ever be 100% healthy again.  Of course, I also wouldn't be surprised if Culpepper gets healthy, becomes an elite QB again, and sticks it to the Dolphins for years to come.  That's just Miami's luck.

tommasse's retort: I think the Phinatic might be onto something here (no, not on something). I still wonder about taking Ginn ninth overall, but time will tell. But look at all the first-round quarterback flops and think about who fits your team and your coaches' plans. Green may just be there to mentor Beck, and Green will be a far better mentor than Culpepper would be. This is about the future, and after Nick Saban set them back several years, Phins phans will simply have to be patient a couple years.

OK, it's your turn. Step up to the Pulpit and say your piece. And if you have a question you want me to ask next week, email me, and I'll pose the best queries to our friends at Buffalo Rumblings, The Phinsider and NY Landing Strip.

There is no question
that Quinn will be a better NFL QB than Beck.

Regardless of what
Mortensen's "experts" think.
