Around SBN: Steve McNair Dead - Former NFL QB Shot and Killed

Some thoughts on the New Bill Belichick Era - Patriots 38, Chargers 14

Let's Go to the Videotape
Dear NFL: Please Leave Excuses Here

Patriots Destroy Chargers, 38-14

So I just got home from Gillette Stadium after watching the supposedly most talented team in the league get utterly dismantled by what is a better coached and simply better team, and I thought: "What excuse are they going to use this time?"

Later I heard that LaDanian Tomlinson (funny, I don't see him at the top of the league rushing stats) was whining about something in the locker room, as all losers are apt to do. The league is going to do everything it can to make life difficult for the Patriots, and the hypocrite fans from around the league are going to get in line to take their shots.

Let them.

Tonight, the New England Patriots proved that it's nothing but sour grapes -- and that's being extremely nice about it. But, hey, that's New England. We're mighty neighborly.

I have to get up for work in a few hours, so I'm going to keep it short. Here are a few observations from tonight's game:

  • The best front seven in the league, no question, plays in New England (and that was without Richard Seymour)
  • The Patriots appear to have a running game (Maroney, 5.1 yards per carry; Morris, also 5.1 yards per carry)
  • The Patriots offensive line is vastly improved over last year
  • Tom Brady is a different quarterback with actual, y'know .. receivers
  • Apparently Antonio Gates is San Diego's entire offense
  • Randy Moss can still play football
  • Junior Seau can still play football
  • Adalius Thomas is .. wow
  • Rosevelt Colvin is who we thought he was!
  • Stephen Gostkowski needs some work
  • Phillip Rivers is an average quarterback with receivers similar to what Brady had last year
  • The Chargers, like the Colts, are just a bunch of whiners
Brady threw one bad pass. It was behind Moss, and Moss tipped it leading to an interception. Brady's fault, but if not for that, Brady probably has another 140+ passer rating. As it was, Brady completed 81 percent of his passes and had another 3 touchdowns (on pace for .. 48).

This one just killed me: In 30 years of watching football, I've never heard of offensive holding getting waved off because "the defender was just overpowered." What? Sounds like something Tony Dungy would have come up with.

Enjoy it, Patriots fans. This one was sweet, sweet justice.

One more thing: Hi to all the fans I met at the game tonight. We saw the birth of the New Bill Belichick Era.

Did anyone see the first segment of...
Around the Horn just now??!? Three of the four panelists said that the game said nothing about the Pats. Just that the San Diego Chargers are bad this year. ARE YOU SERIOUS?? What on earth do the Pats need to do to get some respect?

Go undefeated
And then the "experts" will say we had an easy schedule and cheated.

Yeah, Pats get no respect
C'mon. And nobody gives Peyton Manning enough credit for being a good QB. Enough with that nonsense from Colts and Pats.
  1. What is your logic here? Cheating is irrelevant because the Pats just proved they don't need to cheat? That must be nonsense. I guess the new rule would be - good teams can cheat because they're going to win anyway.
  2. People can't say the Chargers suck after this? Notice that the Pats beat the Chargers by the same score as they beat the Jets. I'd say Chargers equals Jets is pretty much a surprise, and not a good thing for the Chargers.
  3. The Patriots are awesome, and I don't see anyone saying they're not. Find someone for me that said that. Seriously. If someone thinks the Pats are awesome, and the Chargers tank and get crushed by the Pats, then the game really doesn't say anything about the Pats because we already knew they were awesome.

The logic
Is that the team and its coach were punished by the league for the cheating. Meanwhile, all week, losers and whiners complained and wondered if the cheating stretched back to the jurassic era and whether their teams were ripped off in all the previous Patriots wins.

That's disrespect if not downright insulting. But it's what Patriots fans have come to expect. And you've reinforced that .. again.

Where did I reinforce that?
I said before, they got their punishment, it's done. It's also completely unrelated to beating the Chargers. You said justice was served by the win - that makes no sense.

Your team doesn't need disrespect to play well, they can just play well. The disrespect pouty lower lip is unbecoming of a fan of a great team. Buck up.

Sickening
I was just listening to WEEI (AM) for the MNF pregame show.  The host (not sure of his name) does an interview with Don Shula.  Part of the interview is so the crotchety old bastard can plug Nutrasystems.  He was then asked about the spying incident. That POS had the audacity to question Tom Brady's accomplishments (never mind Belichick's)saying he wondered how much Tom Brady has benefited from spying and saying that all their SuperBowl victories and success now should have an asterick next to it.  He really came across as a very vile, jealous, holier than thou, two faced backstabber.  I can only imagine what kind of shenanigans that hypocrite took part in in his coaching days.

Anyone associated with Miami, this is fargin war....

Poll result
I'm going to try to remember to capture a poll result when I change polls. People will still be able to vote, but this will be the "unofficial" result.

There WAS a lack of receivers
Now there isn't. So simple, even most Colts fans understand.
