Cause for Alarm? Tom Brady's Right Foot in a Walking Cast

Tom Brady was seen in NYC earlier today walking in a foot cast.  According to the Herald, despite the apparent injury, Brady expects to play in the Super Bowl.  A video of Brady walking in NYC with the foot cast can be viewed here.

I'm sure many will see it as ..
.. cause for celebration.

Two weeks is a long time, and we know nothing about the injury. I'm sure Brady will gut it out if he has to.

Back to your question: Cause for alarm? I don't think so. Cause for concern? Absolutely.

I'm sure we'll hear lots more in the next 12 days, but I'd refrain from slamming the panic button just yet.

RE:
A) Didn't see a cast, but I can assume there was one.

B) Didn't see him limp or favor his foot at all.

C) This is going to get blown way out of proportion...

yes it was him...

2002 AFC Title Game
Brady injures foot, heads to sidelines.  In an appropriate swan-song for his career with the Pats, Bledsoe comes off the bench and engineers a victory (let us not forget Troy Brown's inestimable special-teams contributions that day).  Two weeks later, his ankle heavily taped, Brady directs the greatest upset in Super Bowl history over the "Greatest Hype on Turf."

I really don't see any cause for concern, here.

Good point!
Just get nervous at any hint of mortality when it comes to our boy Brady.

I wouldn't worry
First of all, it's apparently an air cast, which is commonly used for all kinds of relatively minor injuries.

Secondly, even if it was something more serious, it wouldn't necessarily be cause for alarm. A good friend of mine used to wear a walking cast for a week or two every time he went home on vacation from college as a means of treating an uncomfortable but not debilitating or even limiting-in-any-way ligament injury in his ankle without having to resort to surgery.

Finally, do you really think Tom Brady, consummate professional that he is, would be out clubbing if he was seriously injured?

Uh...
Air Casts are also used for sprains, even major ones these days. But....

Personally, since Brady said on EEI that unless he was on a stretcher he'd be playing, I'm going to take his word for it.

I'll start worrying if it's Sunday the third and he doesn't have a uniform on, and not a moment sooner... :)

Even if there is
an injury, how serious could it be? During the game, he did not appear to be favoring his right leg-his gait appeared normal, as far as I could tell. Karen G. on espn speculated, after reviewing game tape, that the injury may have resulted from a 4th qtr sack, but she applied the caveat that it was difficlt/impossible to discern a specific point of acute injury.
The real problem is that he had such a poor game. The concern is that if there was/is an injury that markedly affected his performance, will it linger and similarly affect his super bowl performance, esp. vs a team that has success getting after the qb?

you know the bright thing about Brady's foot
is it takes a lot of the attention away from any of the other distractions that have been going on...

Yeah,
but I could have lived without ever hearing Tony Kornheiser refer to this as "the Brady boot-gate controversy."  Ugh!
Keep the faith!

did he?
oh dear...  I just always wonder when a team like the patriots seems to have a down turn.  I believe I remember hearing that Belichick was a fan of Miyamoto Musashi, who had some very interesting ideas about when a duel began.

the idea that brady might put on a cast to plant the idea of more an an injury than he has would be pretty much in line with that ancient philosophy.

reading this you might find some things that sound more than a little familiar...

The thought of it being strategic gamesmanship
is what crossed my mind when I first saw the tape.  And I wish the media would find another term than "-gate".  This is so overused and refers to something that happened over 30 years ago.

oh gods yes
kill the -gate suffix...

how many -gates can you think of?  anyone want to make a list?
