With regard to his recovery of strength, I've never seen anything quite like it," said ElAttrache, an orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine at the Kerlan-Jobe Clinic in Los Angeles. "With an average person, it would have taken probably twice as long to get range of motion and strength back.

He was also asked how confident he was that he would be the same player he was before the injury. "We'll see. We'll see," he said. "Like I said, talk is cheap. I could sit here and tell you guys I'm going to play until I'm 80, but that doesn't matter. I'm going to go do the best I can do, and I'm going to try to be the best leader and the best teammate and supporter of the guys on my team. That's something that I've always enjoyed doing. Like I said, I'm grateful to have that chance and to be out here today. I can't wait to get out and start playing games."

"People say, 'What will you do if you don't play football?' Why would I even think of doing anything else? What would I do instead of run out in front of 80,000 people and command 52 guys and be around guys I consider brothers and be one of the real gladiators? Why would I ever want to do anything else? It's so hard to think of anything that would match what I do: Fly to the moon? Jump out of planes? Bungee-jump off cliffs? None of that s--- matters to me. I want to play this game I love, be with my wife and son, and enjoy life."

"I'm feeling great and just excited to be out there on the field, training with my teammates," Brady said. "It's always fun being back in this competitive environment and working with these guys to try to make 2009 our best season. It's been fun to be back. I think everyone is excited to get back on the field and see what we're capable of."

DANA POINT, Calif. -- The Patriots closed the 2008 season on the road against the Buffalo Bills, and they're going to open the 2009 season against the Bills at home on "Monday Night Football." League sources confirmed the Patriots' opener, which will mark the return of Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and the Buffalo debut of wide receiver Terrell Owens in a matchup that pits two old rivals from the American Football League, which will have its 50th anniversary commemorated by the NFL this season. The 7 p.m. game is expected to take place on Sept. 14; an official announcement will be made later today at the NFL's owners' meetings by Commissioner Roger Goodell. Besides the Brady-T.O. intrigue, the Patriots will also be helping "Monday Night Football" celebrate its 40th anniversary. It's possible that both teams could don throwback jerseys for the game.

"I've been a fan of his for a long time," Galloway said of Brady. "I've been a fan of the team, of the organization, Mr. Kraft, from top to bottom. I've always looked forward to an opportunity to get into a situation with like I said stability at quarterback, which has always been something I've hoped for and going into this opportunity I looked for in my decision-making. Once the opportunity came to have a chance to play with Tom Brady, I don't think you can do any better than that."

Appearing at a charity event arranged through the Patriots Charitable Foundation at the West End House Boys & Girls Club in Allston, Mass., where he donated 1,000 laptops to One Laptop per Child which will be distributed to 31 countries world wide, Brady reported that he’s on schedule to return for the 2009 season. "I’m feeling great. I’m feeling really good. Everything is progressing just as I expected," Brady said. "There is a lot of hard work that needs to take place, by myself, by my teammates, by our coaches, to get us back to where we want to be."

"I would like to thank everyone for the well wishes and support you have given me throughout my career. It has been particularly helpful during these past six weeks. It is great to know you are all behind me, not only during the good times, but also during the challenging times. On October 6, I had surgery to repair my knee from the injury that took place four weeks earlier in our season opener. "The surgery went well and my doctor described my knee as 'rock solid.' Unfortunately, in the week following the surgery, I developed an infection. The infection is very treatable and, through a course of antibiotics, it will be knocked out of my system. We were proactive with the infection and the doctors went in for a second procedure this past Wednesday to clean and to test the wound. The results of the tests have all been positive and we are very thankful. I am excited to begin rehabbing my knee and will continue preparing for 2009. I'm looking forward to supporting my teammates throughout the rest of this season, as we strive to achieve the goals we set as a team months ago. Thanks again for your letters and well wishes. The support has meant so much to me during these past few weeks. "I encourage all of my young fans to keep your bodies and minds as fit as possible and to deal with whatever challenges you may face. We never know what life is going to throw us. The best offense is to be prepared whether for the next school test, the next game, or for an unexpected challenge. "Thanks again -TB."

The NFL's officiating department has reviewed the Bernard Pollard hit that injured the left knee of Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, and has deemed it within the rules. NFL rules state that "no defensive player who has an unrestricted path to the quarterback may hit him flagrantly in the area of the knee(s) or below when approaching in any direction". But the Pollard hit was deemed legal because "the defensive player was coming off and affected by a block by the offense", according to a league spokesman.
