It's Official: Bruschi's Wrist Is Broken

Linebacker to Miss Entire Preseason

No real news here. Just confirmation of what we already suspected. Tedy Bruschi had surgery on the wrist Wednesday to repair a broken Scaphoid bone. He will miss at least the preseason.

No one has said much more than that. From our previous posts, it's likely that he will miss a game or two of the regular season.

For now, it looks like the team will do as I predicted: sub for Bruschi until he's healthy. Some have suggested that Mike Vrabel will switch inside or that the Patriots may even change their 3-4 defense to a 4-3. I tell you: I don't see it.

In true New England Patriot form, injury status is more secure than most state secrets. It's entirely possibly that Bruschi will be out for a prolonged period. We'll just have to wait and see and hope for the best.

Otherwise, the players -- including Rodney Harrison, Richard Seymour, Dan Koppen and others -- who recently came off the Physically Unable to Perform list will not be playing in tomorrow night's exhibition opener at Atlanta.

And this programming note: There will be an open thread posted for tomorrow night's game, but I will not be participating in the discussion.
