Happy Independence Day
Remember Why We're Here

"We hold these truths to be self-evident ..."

And with those simple, but inspired words, our forefathers set in place Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness as the cornerstone to the foundation of a new nation. Their lofty ideals and stalwart courage set the example for centuries of freedom and prosperity.

We here in the Boston area, not far from Plymouth where the freedom-seeking Pilgrims landed, where spilt blood nourished the seed of Freedom and men of deep conviction fired the "Shot Heard 'Round the World" at Lexington and Concord, take especial pride and pleasure being so near to where it all began.

Today, in the words of New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, we are all patriots. Today is a day to remember those men and the prospects they faced in battling a world power to secure the freedom and well-being of a fledgling nation, what they placed on the line and offered to sacrifice for the birth of a concept. It's a day to reflect on the meaning of Independence, to count our blessings, and to work toward a future worthy and befitting those mighty aspirations.

Read the text of the Declaration of Independence and view the list of signers at USHistory.org. Then kick back with a Samuel Adams Boston Lager, watch a baseball game, and think how lucky we are to be citizens of the greatest nation born to this planet.

Two hundred thirty-one years and counting.

Happy Independence Day.

Tune in nationally to CBS, locally to WBZ-TV and Radio to hear the Boston Pops and see Boston's best in the nation concert and fireworks display.
