Vincent Jackson Not Headed to the Patriots... Yet

In the wake of the Randy Moss trade, there has been a lot of speculation among fans and the media that the Patriots could make a move for disgruntled Chargers' wide receiver Vincent Jackson.

It would seemingly make sense; Jackson, like Moss, is tall, big (6'5", 230 lbs), and a great downfield threat. While that seems to make Jackson a good fit, lets not jump on the bandwagon yet.

If Jackson were to sign his tender, he'd still have to serve his suspension (and wouldn't be able to play until week nine if I'm not mistaken). Not only that, he would be one strike away from a full-season suspension. Add to the fact that like Moss, he would only be playing on a one year deal, it doesn't make too much sense at this time.

That's not to say it couldn't happen. If it were to happen, the Patriots would have to not only negotiate fair trade compensation with the Chargers, but figure out a long term contract extension for Jackson. If I were a betting man, I'd start looking at big receivers in the 2011 draft class, which could include the likes of A.J. Green, Julio Jones, and Jonathan Baldwin. A trade for Jackson just doesn't seem like a Patriots-type of move.
