Yesterday, the NFL handed down a $25,000 dollar fine to Raiders defensive end and former Patriot Richard Seymour after he punched Pittsburgh Steelers Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger after he threw his second touchdown passm of the game between the Raiders and Steelers.
It was unclear as to whether Roethlisberger said anything that might have provoked Seymour into doing what he did, or if Seymour was taking his frustration out on Big Ben. The five-time pro bowler Seymour was later ejected from the game for disorderly conduct in which the Steelers would go onto win 35-3.
Seymour later apologized for his actions:
"I apologize to my teammates," Seymour said. "I never want to do anything to hurt the team. You always want to protect yourself, but there's no excuse. ... I'm not sure why he [Roethlisberger] ran up on me. I just turned around and it was a natural reaction."
The question is raised however, that is Seymour's 25K fine enough for the magnitude of his reaction?
