According to a WEEI report, Louisville WR Scott Long had a workout run by Patriots WR coach Chad O'Shea. Long is projected to be a late round pick, which goes along with the other workouts the Patriots have done as of late. The Patriots are clearly doing a thorough job of looking at potential 6th and 7th round selections because we have seven picks in that time. Long could be one of those picks.
Long was a top performer for his posiiton in every category at the combine last month, finishing first among wide receivers in three-cone drill (6.45 seconds), the vertical jump (41.5 inches) and 60-yard shuttle (11.06 seconds). In addition, he tied for first in the bench press with 20 repetitions of 225 pounds.
The 23-year-old is a 6-foot-2, 214-pounder who caught 53 passes for 727 yards and two touchdowns last season. He finished his career at Louisville with 91 catches, 1,286 yards and four TDs.
Long could fit in well and emerge as a solid #3 this next season and he has the size to become a great #1. He has all the measurables and he performed well enough on a pretty bad team. He's a big target who could become our Reggie Wayne- his 3 cone drill means that he's good at changing directions and could become an "all over the field" receiver. Long is a great player to look at and if his talent matches his combine statistics, then he could provide the receiver depth that we desperately need.
