Report: Patriots Held Private Workout with Maryland WR Torrey Smith

You can add another high profile name to the Patriots' growing list of private workouts: Maryland wide receiver Torrey Smith. According to the National Football Post, the Patriots recently held a private workout with the speedy wide receiver.

At 6'1" and 204 pounds, Torrey Smith has a rare combination of size, athleticism, intangibles, and versatility. He ran a 4.41 40 yard dash at the combine, meaning he has excellent straight line speed. He's also a very dangerous kick returner, evidenced by his three career kick return touchdowns. Excellent after the catch, Smith has to polish up parts of his game, but he certainly has a lot of potential that should make him very intriguing to the Patriots. And do not be fooled, Smith isn't a "smurf." If he can prove that he can run the Patriots' more complex route tree, there's a chance he could be exactly what the Patriots need at the wide receiver position.

Should the Patriots be interested in drafting Smith, it would likely be in the late first or early second round, presumably with the 28th or 33rd pick.
