Belichick-Era Patriots Top 10 Successes #9
Name: David Givens
College: Notre Dame
Drafted: 7th Round, Pick 253, 2002
Position: Wide receiver
Years with Team: 4
Where is he now? Out of football due to injury
Comments: While David Givens never put up the flashiest regular season numbers, his production was very good for a 7th round pick. He never had the best athleticism or the greatest straight line speed. What he did have: strength, physicality, toughness, solid route running, and great intelligence. He also had a knack for coming up with clutch plays and scored touchdowns in seven of his eight career playoff games for the Patriots. Quite simply, not only was Givens a fan favorite, but he just had that ability to score big touchdowns in big moments. Unfortunately for the Patriots, David Givens left for the Tennessee Titans following the 2005 season on a five year, $25 million contract. Unfortunately for Givens, he had a bad diagnosis on a knee injury; An injury that ultimately ended his football playing career.
