Belichick-Era Patriots Top 10 Busts #7
Name: Rohan Davey College: LSU Drafted: 4th round, 117th overall, 2002 Position: Quarterback Years with Team: 3+ Where is he now? Arena football, currently a free agent Comments: The fact that a 4th round pick can be listed as the Patriots' number seven draft bust just goes to show how great of a drafter Bill Belichick has been over the past decade-plus. When Rohan Davey was drafted out of LSU in 2002, the expectations were pretty high. After all, Tom Brady had been taken two rounds later just two years prior. People weren't expecting Davey to be a Brady, but a lot of people thought he could develop into a great backup. He had tremendous size, strength, and one heck of a rocket arm. Once, I was able to personally witness Davey throw the ball 75 yards from his knees. The guy had unbelievable potential. I haven't even mentioned that he tore apart NFL Europe in 2004, winning the MVP and taking home the championship. Unfortunately, a variety of mechanical issues and inconsistency cost Davey a roster spot in 2005, as he was beat out for the final spot by rookie 7th round pick Matt Cassel. Looks like the Patriots made the right decision on that one.
