Okay, I have no idea what to make of this rumor. Absolutely no idea. In my personal opinion, this seems completely ridiculous. But the fact that ProFootballTalk is picking up this story probably gives it some legitimacy. Or not. Like I said, I have no idea what to make of this, but I'll let you read it yourself:
Bengals receiver Chad Ochocinco is dropping hints that he'll be a Patriot. And he's dropping the hints in a most unusual way.
James Shively (@JC_Shively) of Cincinnati has a Twitter page. Earlier today, he complained about persistent rumors and reports that Ochocinco will be cut.
Wrote Shively: "So much 4 @ochocinco getting cut by the #Bengals... Media dont know squat. Always tryin 2 stir drama up."
Shively received a "direct message" from Ochocinco. Said Ochocinco: "Media knows nothing but I'm going to enjoy clam chowder." (We've seen the screen shot of the message.)
This is the type of story I can't even comment on and be able to look myself in the mirror with a straight face ever again. But, its out there. I guess we can just hope that Ochocinco wasn't referring to Manhattan Clam Chowder. Or depending on your opinion of him, maybe that's what you should be hoping he was talking about.
Update: In even more ridiculousness, Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer passed along a note that several readers had seen "Chad Ochocinco at CVG today heading on a plane to Boston. This follows a radio sports talk host in Boston saying that he heard Chad is coming to New England." Reedy speculated that Ochocinco may be placed on the waiver wire at 4:00 PM today. I'm not buying any of it. I know Bill Belichick and Chad Ochocinco have that buddy-buddy relationship, but I'm just not sure that Ochocinco, at this stage in his career, fits what the Patriots need.
