New England Patriots vs. New York Giants

NFL Preseason Week 4

Gillette Stadium | Foxboro, MA

Giants Coverage: Big Blue View

  • As bad as the Patriots played in the opening half of the team's preseason opener against the Lions, they came out and played that much better against the Giants.  The team's defense was similar to last year, in that they let up a lot of yards and were a bit frustrating to watch, but came up with big turnovers that put the team in scoring position.  The Pats defense forced three turnovers in the first half.
  • Albert Haynesworth and Shaun Ellis both made their debuts and were impressive in the first half.  Haynesworth pushed the pocket on passing plays, and actually made some stuffs against the run.  Shaun Ellis made a couple of plays out of the left end spot, and even picked up a sack near the end of the half.
  • On offense, the Patriots really didn't have too many snaps to gain a good perspective.  Tom Brady seemed relatively sharp, his highlights being a nice throw to BenJarvus Green-Ellis and a deep throw to Matthew Slater, who made an impressive run after the catch for a 64 yard gain.  Green-Ellis also punched the ball into the endzone on two one yard scores.
  • Brady and the starters played almost the entire first half.  It wasn't a perfect performance by any means, and they were playing against the Giants' reserves, but I think the Pats did enough to help wash away the bad taste from their performance against the Lions.
