Patriots Release FB Lousaka Polite

In the last week, the Patriots added two new fullbacks to the roster: former Bronco Spencer Larsen and former Cowboy/Panther Tony Fiammetta. In conjunction with those moves, the Patriots announced the release of another player at the fullback position, veteran Lousaka Polite.

The move isn't exactly a surprising one given the additions of Larsen and Fiammetta.

Polite played in the team's regular season finale against the Buffalo Bills, and also played in all three of the Patriots' playoff games. In the team's 45-10 playoff victory over the Denver Broncos, Polite had one carry for three yards and a first down.

Now, the Patriots' fullback job is likely a two horse race. Spencer Larsen provides defensive versatility (has played linebacker) and likely a little more potential as a runner / receiver. Meanwhile, Fiammetta is a classic "bruiser" as a blocking fullback that would likely be featured in a lot of two-back and short-yardage sets. Although, the Patriots could also opt to keep both players. They both could be core special teams players, and both would have different roles on offense.
