Game Footage

Strengths: Good drive after contact. Great athlete with great speed and explosion to the outside. Head on a swivel to find the open field. Great burst when there's a hole in the defense. Able receiver, but rarely used.

Weaknesses: Looks for the open field so much he can dance in the backfield. Not as strong towards the inside. Wore down as the season continued and saw a huge decrease in production (with two positive spikes against weak defenses in Duke and Boston College). May only be a tandem back in the NFL. Rarely used as a blocker. Inexperienced.

What is their role? Miller would be competing for the starting role with Stevan Ridley and Shane Vereen.

Will it change from year 1 to year 2? Miller will most likely be a tandem back and would continue to split carries.

How many downs can he play? Two downs since he's inexperienced as a pass blocker.

Which current player will he beat out? Most likely a fullback (Spencer Larsen, Eric Kettani, Tony Fiammetta).

What’s his ST value? Little. He was an able kick returner, but the Patriots tend to have their late round picks (or lower contract players) return the ball in case of injuries.

Does he have positional versatility? No. He's a running back.

Why the Patriots? The Patriots might need to add some depth in their backfield and Miller has the physical qualities of an elite runner.

Why not the Patriots? Laurence Maroney. I see his tape and see Maroney.

Verdict: No. There are other better options and the Patriots are looking for north-south running backs to move the ball, not freelancing running backs who dance in the backfield.
