According to ESPN Boston's Mike Reiss, the New England Patriots have released tight end Bo Scaife and offensive lineman Mike Ingersoll.
Scaife was signed by the Patriots back on June 7 after they lost rookie free agent tight end Brad Herman to a torn achilles. The Patriots were very thin at tight end at the time, as Rob Gronkowski, Aaron Hernandez and Daniel Fells were all not practicing. They were simply in need of someone to take reps at the position. The seven-year pro previously played for the Titans and Bengals.
The versatile offensive lineman Ingersoll was signed just a day after Scaife, and was also being used as emergency depth for a thin area. The Patriots were without Logan Mankins, Brian Waters and Sebastian Vollmer during both OTAs and minicamp. The second year UDFA out of North Carolina played for both the Buccaneers and Chiefs last season.
The moves open up two open roster spots on the team's 90-man roster.
