Patriots Claim C/G Matt Tennant

Presswire

The Patriots have claimed center/guard Matt Tennant off of waivers this afternoon, and have added him to the 53-man roster.

Tennant, 25, was the Saints' fifth-round draft choice coming out of Boston College in 2010. At 6'5 and 300 pounds, Tennant is a big lineman who thrives in zone schemes like the Patriots employ. Tennant garnered praise as being Matt Ryan's center during BC's widely acclaimed 2007 season. According to Tennant's scouting report, Tennant has been noted as lacking athleticism and having small arms, but is lauded for his quick feet and massive strength.

The news was first broken by Greg Bedard, who opines that this could be a depth signing to bolster the offensive line—specifically to backup probable center Ryan Wendell—or a bad sign for an eventual Brian Waters return with Dan Connolly sliding over to right guard.

In other waiver-related news, the Indianapolis Colts have announced that they have successfully claimed S Sergio Brown off of waivers.
