According to CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora, the Patriots worked out running back Kahlil Bell at Gillette Stadium on Saturday.
Bell, 25, played 13 games last year for the Chicago Bears last season, starting three times. Overall, he rushed for 337 yards on 79 carries and caught 19 passes for 133 yards. He used primarily as insurance for both Matt Forte and Marion Barber.
Bell was released by the Bears last week after refusing the take a pay cut.
Like with any other Patriots workout, I wouldn't put too much stock into it. The Patriots already have Stevan Ridley, Shane Vereen, Danny Woodhead and Brandon Bolden on their roster, so it doesn't appear that Bell is needed. One might think that he could "replace" Jeff Demps, who was placed on IR yesterday, but the two are totally different players.
I wouldn't be surprised though to see Bell come on board if Vereen's injury doesn't get any better. But for now, it's just Bill Belichick doing his due diligence. It's the Patriots being the Patriots.
