When Bill Belichick is constructing a Patriots roster in any given year, he's likely to consider not only the players he brought to training camp, but also cut players from around the league.
Today, we saw that principle in action, as the Patriots acquired wide receiver Greg Salas from the St. Louis Rams and claimed center/guard Matt Tennant from the New Orleans Saints off of waivers.
But as it was pointed out by ESPN Boston's Mike Reiss, these weren't the only players that Belichick had his eye on adding to his roster.
In addition to Tennant, the Patriots also put in claims on Jaguars offensive lineman Daniel Baldridge and 49ers guard Mike Person. Person ended up going to the Colts, who had a higher claim priority over the Patriots. Meanwhile, Baldridge was awarded to the Patriots, but the team pulled their claim when they learned that they had claimed Tennant.
Earlier, I wrote about Kahlil Bell's workout with the Patriots--but it turns it there were more people in for workouts today. Among the players that were at Gillette Stadium for a tryout were defensive back Ben Hannula, linebacker Noah Keller, wide receivers Thomas Mayo and Sam Kirkland, and running backs Bell and Josh Vaughn.
Out of that group, the Patriots only signed Kirkland, who will join the team's practice squad.
