One of the bigger storylines coming out of the Patriots 20-18 home loss to the Arizona Cardinals is the health of tight end Aaron Hernandez.
Hernandez left the game in the first quarter after Julian Edelman rolled up on his ankle while he was blocking on a designed screen. Hernandez was assisted off the field and went to the locker room, being given the generic "questionable to return" designation.
Well, we have an update on Hernandez' situation, although it's tough to say exactly how bad the injury is. According to Shalise Manza Young of the Boston Globe, Hernandez' x-rays have returned negative. While there could be other damage, it's suspected that the injury is a high ankle sprain.
So what exactly does this mean?
Well, for one, the fact that there's no break is a good sign. With a high ankle sprain, Hernandez is most likely to return to the team at some point this year. High ankle sprains can vary in severity. He could be out for a couple of weeks, he could be out for a couple of months. At this point, we're going to have to wait to hear more before jumping to any conclusions.
We'll keep you updated as we learn more.
