New England Patriots (0-0) at Tennessee Titans (0-0)
Titans Coverage: Music City Miracles
First quarter thoughts:
- Patriots got away with one early, with Devin McCourty not getting called on a pretty obvious pass interference in the end zone. Aside from that, the Patriots defense performed very well, holding the Titans to a long field goal drive and a three and out in the first quarter. The front seven looked very strong, shutting down Titans running back Chris Johnson - holding him to just 12 yards on seven carries.
- The Patriots were a bit up and down on offense. Running back Stevan Ridley broke tackles, and looked decisive in his cuts. He picked up 36 yards on six carries. Quarterback Tom Brady looked sharp, buying time in the pocket, and delivering a 23 yard touchdown strike to Aaron Hernandez near the end of the first quarter. Two miscues from his receivers though, as Brandon Lloyd seemed to hesitate while wide open on a deep attempt, and Wes Welker dropped a pass over the middle on third down that would have resulted in a first down.
