Halftime: Patriots Up 21-10 on Jets

New, comments

The New England Patriots are leading the Jets 21-10 at halftime of their week seven contest.

It wasn't a perfect first half for the Patriots offense, but they sure are happy to have tight end Rob Gronkowski back.  In the first half, Gronk picked up 54 yards on four catches, including a big 30 yard catch down the seam on the Patriots' opening drive to set up a touchdown.

Quarterback Tom Brady has been relatively sharp, and the Patriots have had some limited success in the running game.  Aside from the unit's final play of the first half, the pass protection has also held up much better than in recent weeks.

Defensively, things are a work in progress without veterans Jerod Mayo, Vince Wilfork, Aqib Talib, and Tommy Kelly.  The Patriots benefited in run defense thanks to stellar play from Brandon Spikes.  However, when he wasn't making plays, the Jets were able to run the ball up the throat of the New England defense.

Geno Smith has been really up and down for the Jets.  He started the game on a torrid pace, especially on third downs.  A pick-six by Patriots rookie Logan Ryan was the lowlight for Smith.

The Patriots currently lead 21-10 at halftime and will get the ball to start the second half.
