The injury depleted Patriots team may apparently suffered another major loss this Sunday against the Miami Dolphins, as offensive tackle Sebastian Vollmer left the game with a gruesome leg injury and did not return.
The injury was suffered in the second quarter as Vollmer had the back of his right leg rolled up on at the conclusion of a Stevan Ridley rushing attempt. Vollmer immediately fell to the ground, and his screams could be easily heard through the television broadcast. After being immediately fitted into an air cast, Vollmer was carted off the field and the Patriots soon announced that he would not be returning to the game.
If the injury is as serious as it appears, it would be another major blow to a key player for this Patriots team as they've already lost defensive stalwarts Vince Wilfork and Jerod Mayo for the season, and have had a difficult time keeping many other players on the field.
Third year pro Marcus Cannon took over for Vollmer at the right tackle spot, and at first glance did a solid job handling Cameron Wake and the Dolphins' rush. That being said, losing Vollmer would be a major blow to an already struggling offensive line.
The Patriots also have veteran Will Svitek - who adds depth at the tackle position.
We'll update the Vollmer situation as we hear more news.
