The Pittsburgh Steelers have decided to retain Emmanuel Sanders. His agent, Jordon Woy, first tweeted the news at 6:12 PM EST.
Pitt has matched the RFA offer sheet on Emmanuel Sanders. First RFA to get offer in 3 years
— Jordan Woy (@JordanWoy) April 14, 2013
Emmanuel Sanders has 94 catches for 1,290 yards and five touchdowns in his career with Pittsburgh.
It's obvious that New England saw value in Sanders, but they definitely are fine with not signing him, or else they would have offered more than the $2.5 million dollar offer sheet.
With this news, it likely means that New England will look to the NFL Draft for wide receiver. The X-receiver position is now a glaring need with Donald Jones or Michael Jenkins at the top of the depth chart at that position.
Names like DeAndre Hopkins or Robert Woods come to mind in the first round. But they could wait and look to players like Stedman Bailey or Aaron Dobson in the second or third round.
However, the team could still choose to resign Brandon Lloyd, who is still out on the market.
