So I wanted Aaron Dobson, but I guess we can't always get what we want. Dobson has that outside speed, size, and hands that are sure to be a great factor in flag football. Well, maybe I can still find my own Dobson.
But maybe I should try to stop him first.
The top two defensive backs are already off the table, in Devin McCourty and Aqib Talib, so I need to dig deep to try and find ways to stop Dobson and other opposing receivers because, let's be serious, I'm not expecting Rob Gronkowski or Chandler Jones to be running down the field with anyone with great speed.
I need to think fast about fleshing out my team because as it stands, I have two interior players (a la the real Patriots), when we really need some sideline action.
So up next is cornerback/wide receiver Ras-I Dowling (since injuries don't count!).
Dowling is, in my opinion, the next best defensive back available (outside of the undraftable Alfonzo Dennard). I think Dowling is a better athlete than Kyle Arrington, and I don't count any of the safeties in the same league of flag football potential (other than Devin McCourty).
Dowling should be able to cover outside receivers like a glove in this game as he's always been a pre-season warrior. He looks great in camp, and what is this league other than camp for Dowling? Shorts, baby. Dowling is going to be my lockdown corner all the way to the championship.
On offense, Dowling was a wide receiver in high school and at 6'1, 210 lbs, he adds the size on the outside that few others can provide.
Are there better athletes still on the board? Definitely. But Dowling has the best skill set that I need to fill a glaring hole and he can help take this team to the next level.
But then again, maybe I'm just playing chess.
