The New England Patriots have filled two of three open roster spots, as the team has signed wide receiver Lavasier Tuinei and rookie defensive lineman Scott Vallone.
Vallone, undrafted out of Rutgers this past April, is the sixth rookie from the school on the Patriots roster. At 6’2” and 273 lbs, Vallone played mostly inside for the Scarlet Knights, making a lot of plays in the backfield with a high motor. However, with his size, he may be able to kick to the outside in bigger fronts. He was not invited to the combine.
Tuinei, is an Oregon prospect who went undrafted in 2012 but has some interesting measurables. He has spent time with the Seahawks and Bengals. At 6’5” and 220 lbs, he has excellent size. He also ran a 4.53 at his Pro Day, and registered an intriguing 6.71 in the 3-cone drill.
With the signings, the Patriots roster now stands at 89 players. They could opt to fill that final spot, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they stand pat either.
