The New England Patriots announced a flurry of minor roster moves this afternoon, including the signing of four players and the release of defensive back Stephon Morris.
Two of the signings had already been reported – defensive lineman Scott Vallone and wide receiver Lavasier Tuinei. Two are new – defensive linemen Travis Chappelear and receiver Johnathan Haggerty.
Haggerty, 25, is a 6’1” 195 lbs player out of Southwestern Oklahoma State. After going undrafted in 2010, Haggerty signed with the Browns before landing on injured reserve. In 2011, he spent part of the year on the Bears’ practice squad. At his pro day in 2010, Haggerty showed some impressive measurables including a 4.45 40-time, a 38 inch vertical jump, and a 6.86 in the 3-cone drill.
Chappelear played collegiately at Northwest Missouri State and went undrafted this past April. He projects to the edge on the defensive line, and has intriguing size at 6’5” and 263 lbs. At his Pro Day in March, he ran a 4.78 40 yard dash, had 34 bench press reps, and an eye opening 37” vertical. He initially signed with the Bengals following the draft before being released in May.
Both players are long shots to make the final roster.
