The Indianapolis Colts acquired sophomore running back Trent Richardson from the Cleveland Browns on Wednesday, according to NFL Network.
Colts owner Jim Irsay foreshadowed the move, but didn't say exactly what would be going down:
This day of MONSTER TRADE,The Tidal Wave Of Deal making...Shocks the system of "..Didn't see THIS ONE COMING!!!!!!" Grig's Rollin' Dice!
— Jim Irsay (@JimIrsay) September 18, 2013
Minutes later, Irsay confirmed the news with a post on the official Colts website.
This is a rarity in the NFL. A second-year running back traded after a 950-yard, 11 touchdown season. He was a top 10 draft pick last season. He started slowly this season, amassing just 105 yards over two games. But it still doesn't seem like reason enough to trade away Richardson.
The Browns receive the Colts' the first-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.
The Colts just got scarier with this trade. They already have one of the best young quarterbacks in the game in Andrew Luck. Now they have one of the best young running backs in football, too.
