The stars at night, are big and bright.
(clap, clap, clap, clap)
It was told by those very same stars that the confounding OL Brian Waters had wanted to sign with a Texas team, but the money was on him inevitably ending up with AFC rival Houston Texans. This was also a big reason why the Patriots were unwilling to release him outright after missing all of last season so as not to strengthen a fellow contender on the verge of a playoff run.
It was announced yesterday that Brian Waters officially signed with the Dallas Cowboys, shoring up the Dallas offensive line and officially ending his confusing saga with the New England Patriots.
Waters, 36, had signed with the Patriots prior to the start of the 2011 season after he was released by the Kansas City Chiefs. Waters had a career resurgence of sorts under the tutelage of Dante Scarnecchia, starting all 16 games at right guard and earning Pro Bowl accolades.
Waters was deemed an integral part of the 2012 squad, but he mysteriously never reported at any point during the offseason. It was reported that Waters voiced his intent to play closer to home during the twilight of his career, but the Patriots were shrewd to not grant him his wish. A return was heavily negotiated with the Patriots even offering a significant raise, but the two sides would fail to come to an agreement. Waters would stay on the reserve/did not report list for the remainder of his contract.
The Cowboys are allowing him several weeks to get back in football shape which he'll likely need after logging his last snap during Super Bowl XLVI. It's extremely rare for a rapidly aging veteran to be given such a long leash in regards to his status on a team, but Waters has somehow masterfully engineered his waning years on his own terms.
