You can officially stop worrying now. No one is concerned that former Patriots cornerback Marquice Cole is going to give away any deep secrets to his new team, the Denver Broncos. Cole signed with the Broncos as they had to place their #2 corner Chris Harris on the injured reserve.
So who has been asked?
Bill Belichick on signing former players:
"I think that’s way overrated and a lot of times the information in those situations is sometimes misinformation because things have changed from whenever that person was [there]...A lot of times you, a player has been with another team, saying that this is what they do, this is their call and this is this, this is that.
Honestly, I think we have enough trouble doing all the things that we do, and getting it right and getting ready to do it well. And I’m sure they have the same thing with the amount of volume you have in your different systems and the amount of volume that you face on the other side of the ball. To be able to not only know everything that you’re doing and then to be able to figure out everything that they’re doing, it’s pretty overrated."
Aqib Talib on the new deal:
"[Cole] can't tell Peyton Manning nothin' that Peyton Manning don't already know about us."
Steve Gregory on hearing the news:
"That might be the first time I heard it, actually. Teams sign guys all the time, it really has no bearing on what we need to do to win a football game."
Marquice Cole himself:
"When you have people like Peyton, I’m pretty sure he knows more about the defense than even I would. Same thing with Tom [Brady]. What could I say to Peyton Manning, you know? What, ‘They’re going to be in cover-one, they’re going to be in cover-two, they’re going to be in cover.’ It is what it is. He is going to do his scouting, which I’m pretty sure he’s been doing before I even signed here, so there isn’t much I can do to help out."
So there you have it from everyone. Gregory doesn't think the signing will have an outcome on the game (yep!). Belichick says that the Patriots have a hard enough time learning their own plays, nevermind the Broncos' plays (...wait a minute). And Talib and Cole are in agreement that Peyton already knows everything that Cole would have known, if not more- and best case scenario for the Broncos, they have a second brain bank like Peyton's (...two Peytons...?).
Oh. Oh no. I've convinced myself otherwise. Belichick says the team struggles to know their own plays, while Peyton knows all of the Patriots plays already! Peyton knows the Patriots better than the Patriots know themselves!
This went worse than expected. Or else I totally missed the point of these quotes.
