Let's look beyond the fact that the Patriots and the Colts register as the two of the most inconsistent offenses in the league. The Patriots have the greatest difference in league ranking between the first and second half over the final eight games of the season, while the Colts rank third.
And let's look beyond the Patriots-Colts match-up for the upteenth time.
Bill Belichick just called Colts General Manager Ryan Grigson and asked if they could combine rosters to win the 2015 Super Bowl. With one stipulation: they have to be out for the season. Here's the proposed roster:
Offense
Offensive Line: Sebastian Vollmer, Donald Thomas, Justin Anderson, Markus Zuseivcs
Tight Ends: Rob Gronkowski, Dwayne Allen
Wide Receivers: Reggie Wayne, Josh Boyce, Mark Harrison, T.J. Moe
Running Backs: Ahmad Bradshaw, Vick Ballard, Chris Rainey, Dan Herron
Defense
Defensive Line: Vince Wilfork, Tommy Kelly, Fili Moala, Montori Hughes, Armond Armstead, Cory Grissom
Linebackers: Jerod Mayo, Brandon Spikes, Pat Angerer, Lawrence Sidbury, Mario Harvey, Justin Hickman, Scott Lutrus
Defensive Backs: Greg Toler, Adrian Wilson, Delano Howell
This is only a thirty man roster- but look at the stars.
Vollmer and Thomas are both starters on either team. So are Gronk and Allen. Wayne is a dual-team starter, while Boyce started to make an impact. Bradshaw could find a role on both team, while Ballard would find time as a multi-threat back.
On defense, Wilfork and Kelly are both multi-team starters, while Moala would likely find time on the Patriots line. Mayo, Spikes, and Angerer are among the top linebackers in the league. While this team is going to field a fairly weak secondary, both Toler and Wilson were presumed starters in the off-season.
So let's play a game. Take Gronkowski off the board.
Which five players on this fantasy/nightmare squad would you want on the Patriots for the rest of the playoffs?
